Awarding Scholarships For Over 100 Years

Special Events

Members of the Westerly College Club gathered in Wilcox Park on June 20, 2018 to dedicate a new bench to honor the past, present and future members of the club along with all who have contributed to the club’s scholarship endowment fund. The new bench faces the Blue Urn, which was commissioned by the women of Westerly for the 1893 World’s Fair, to demonstrate both the quality of the granite quarried here, and the extraordinary carving skills of Westerly’s stonecutters. The placement of the WCC bench celebrates gifts given to our town by the women of Westerly. “Another example of women doing their best for their community.”

Funding for the bench was made possible by generous donations from College Club members. The dedication addressed two of the club’s three purposes: to make contributions to the cultural and civic life of our community and to award college scholarships to qualified local applicants. Founded in 1910, the college club has awarded college scholarships since 1917.
